CCTV-1's "My Olympics": Swimming Series

To our swimming fans, let me remind the full recording of China CCTV-1's "My Olympics" aired last March 26 to 30, 2007 soon on YouTube with English subtitles.

Jiang Chengji (Monday, March 26)

The 1996 Olympic Games was the smallest gap between Chinese men’s swimming and the world level. Jiang Chengji finished fourth in the men's 100-meter butterfly, which was the best result of Chinese men's swimming in the Olympics.

Three days later, he entered the men's 50m freestyle final as the third place in the preliminary round.

All the eyes of the Chinese swimming industry fell on Jiang Chengji. Once he won the medal, it was a historic breakthrough.

Qi Hui (Tuesday, March 27)

In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Qi Hui lost his 200m breaststroke medal by 0.01 second. In Athens 4 years later, Qi Hui entered the final again, but in the final 50-meter sprint, Qi Hui was obviously exhausted and was gradually surpassed by the following players, and finally only finished sixth.

Faced with such a result, Qi Hui said: "I tried my best. I have already prepared all my thoughts. My grades may be very good or not satisfactory, but I have no regrets, because in this process I Do your best."

Chen Zuo (Wednesday, March 28)

In the October 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, Chen Zuo unexpectedly defeated the Asian record holder at the time, Japan's Yoshiaki Akobe, and won the men's 100-meter freestyle gold medal in 50.76 seconds.

In the National Swimming Championships in April 2003, Chen Zuo rewrote the national record of 50.51 set by Shanghai celebrity Shen Jianqiang in 1989 with a score of 50.44. He became the well-deserved "China's first short-distance freestyle swimmer".

But for Chen Zuo, swimming for 50 seconds is just the first step. To become a world-class athlete and to make a breakthrough in the 2008 Beijing Olympics (Beijing Olympics news, Beijing Olympics) is Chen Zuo's biggest goal.

Zhou Yafei (Thursday, March 29)

In 2003, the Barcelona World Swimming Championships, the final of the 4X100m medley relay, Zhou Yafei tried his best to consolidate the lead of the Chinese team and successfully handed the baton to the last teammate.

When the teammates arrived at the finish line and the championship became a reality, Zhou Yafei, exhausted, finally couldn't support it and fainted by the pool. After waking up, Zhou Yafei insisted on walking on the podium with her teammates despite her physical discomfort, because she believed that as long as there were teammates, she would be fine!

Wu Peng (Friday, March 30)

19-year-old Wu Peng is the leading figure in Chinese men’s swimming today. When he was very young, he was determined to break through Jiang Chengji's best performance in Chinese men's swimming in the 1996 Olympics-fourth place in the Olympics. Winning an Olympic medal was a promise between him and his father.

However, before the 2004 Athens Olympics, his father suddenly died of illness, and Wu Peng failed to fulfill the agreement between him and his father, and only won the sixth place in the 200-meter butterfly.

In the past two years, Wu Peng has achieved outstanding results in some world competitions. Let us look forward to the realization of the agreement between Wu Peng and his father in 2008!
